 Coldplay's third album sees their sound developing subtly to include a harder rock edge with more prominent use of electric guitar whilst retaining the basic soundscape of layered.

                                 A Rush of Blood to the Head is a soulful, exhilarating journey, moving from the cathartic rock of "Politik" to the hushed tones of "Green Eyes" without once breaking its mesmerizing spell.  Second, and more importantly, is that Radiohead has proven in the past that they can absolutely, without a doubt, rock your face off.                    Because something begins to dawn on you as you listen to A Rush of Blood to the Head: Coldplay have never written a real, live ROCK song.  Bands write great ballads as the occasional step down from their hard rocking ways, but Coldplay have nothing to step down from.  But fans of bigger, louder rock will need more than what Coldplay is willing to give right now.

             In "Swallowed in the Sea" Chris Martin is almost intoxicated by intonation as he says: "you belong to me.  "Low" has some very edgy moments and Chris Martin expresses more of his instinctive creativity and energy that he shows on stage.  Singer Chris Martin takes his voice on soaring flights, reaching places only Jeff Buckley previously dared to go.  The truth is that Coldplay has an unmistakable "sound" largely due to Chris Martin's voice sitting in the middle of a  pool of sounds that are able to soothe the listener while simultaneously provoking audatious thoughts about things such as fair trade ("Politik"), life ("Daylight") and the afterlife ("God Put A Smile Upon Your Face"), along with images of love ("Green Eyes") and breakups ("The Scientist").  The album opens up with a lot of strength: a guitar riff that breaks the silence of two years; and closes with a melancholic theme that is close to the point of genius, with Martin at the piano.  Chris Martin has the pretty falsetto to wail his heart out, but for the most part,. 

              Chris Martin, 30, right, and Co can fulfill their current five-album deal with EMI /Parlophone by issuing a Best Of collection in 2009, thus making the multi-platinum selling act free agents.  Chris Martin breaks into a delighted grin, disrupts the song's mood of lambent despair by excitedly yelling "thanks for coming to see us after such a long time.  Watching Coldplay onstage it's hard to see exactly what Martin is so concerned about. 

                  Despite frontman Chris Martin saying the fourth Coldplay studio album will not be released until 2008, Amazon.  Timbaland is thrilled the group, fronted by Chris Martin, have chosen him to be their producer and insists he cannot wait to get into their heads. 

                        And hes also worked with rap legend Jay-Z, providing vocals for a track off his latest album Kingdom Come; Martin is working with Kanye West on a track that is destined to be the first single off his next album later this year.                                                       Chris Martin has told BBC Radio 6 in the UK that his band Coldplay are unlikely to make the much anticipated return to the Glastonbury music festival this year.                             *** The clip also alleges that Chris Martin nicked the tune when he saw them live at New York's CMJ music festival in October 2007.  In fact, it now transpires that Chris Martin might not have been at the gig at all.  A Coldplay spokesperson said that Chris Martin was recording at Air Studios in London during 2007's CMJ, and so couldn't possibly have been in the crowd. 

 

 

                   Marked by Martin's falsetto-happy vocals, songs like "Yellow" and "Shiver" employ stop/start dynamics that allow serene verses to build to a crescendo, centering on the well-trodden theme of love.  Unfortunately, the effect is ruined when it fades into the following song and we are startled by Chris Martin's eerie vocals.  The first part of this is fantastic, probably because Chris Martin has ditched his trademark falsetto and opted for a more manly register. 

               Right from the start, Coldplace had an unnerving likeness to the real thing, especially in front man Shane crofts whose look, sound and even on stage movement perfectly recreated that of Chris Martin.

                                Coldplay also built a reputation of performing eclectic covers, including Aqua's "Barbie Girl", Rammstein's "Du hast", and Nelly's "Hot in Herre", along with more heartfelt renditions of a-ha's "The Living Daylights" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".  Coldplay toured for over a year, from June 2002 to September 2003, visiting five continents including co-headlining festival dates at Glastonbury Festival, V2003, and Rock Werchter.  Coldplay's third album, X&Y, was released on 6 June 2005 in the UK.
